₹10K Cr for New Roads in AP!
There was a wide discussion on roads in Andhra Pradesh during YCP regime. From 2019 to 2024, YCP was unable to lay new roads and failed to pay dues to contractors who had completed rehabilitation works. The YCP faced severe criticism on this and there were many memes on social media. However, YCP did not care.
With the change of guard, the NDA government in AP has focused on improving infrastructure in the state. Accordingly, CM Chandrababu Naidu and DCM Pawan Kalyan sanctioned ₹ 10,000 crore for new and repair works of old roads.
Roads under Panchayat Raj department are given highest priority. Especially in rural areas, many roads have been completely damaged due to recent floods, for which a budget of ₹614 crore has been earmarked. According to officials’ estimates, 3,941 km of new roads in 2,534 residential areas are required and the state government has sanctioned ₹ 3,311 crore.
Additionally, the state government has identified another 162 residential areas requiring 1,854 km of new roads, for which ₹1,900 crore has been allocated. The government plans to take loans worth ₹693 crore from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) for new roads in rural areas spanning 1,827 km.
Panchayat Raj authorities will soon invite tenders for 126 km of new roads, for which a budget of ₹106 crore has been allocated. A total of 4,635 km of roads need to be rehabilitated, pothole filling and BT roads are estimated to require funds of ₹1,122 crore.
The state government plans to spend another ₹7,312 crore on 16,627 km of new roads across the state. Overall, a substantial budget of ₹10,000 crore can change the fate of roads in AP, thanks to the NDA government.
