According to the orders of the court, the police have conducted an investigation at the Isha Foundation in Tamil Nadu
A strong team of 150 police personnel descended on the Isha Foundation here as part of an inquiry by the Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police after the Madras High Court sought a report from the Tamil Nadu government on all criminal cases registered against spiritual guru Jaggi Vasudev’s organization.
A High Court bench hearing a habeas corpus petition filed by Coimbatore-based retired professor S Kamaraj directed the Tamil Nadu government to submit details of all criminal cases registered against the Isha Foundation.
In his petition, Kamaraj alleged that his two daughters were “brainwashed” at the Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore and the foundation did not allow them to have any contact with their families.
A senior police officer said that officials have conducted an inquiry at the foundation.
In response to the petition, the Isha Foundation has denied the allegations of supporting the monk as it is a personal choice.
“Isha Foundation was founded by Sadhguru to bring yoga and spirituality to people. We believe that adult individual human beings have the freedom and wisdom to choose their path,” the foundation said in a statement here.
“It is home to thousands of non-monks and a few who have taken brahmacharya or asceticism. However, the petitioner sought to produce the monks before the court and the monks produced themselves before the court.
“They have made it clear that they are staying at Isha Yoga Center of their own free will. Now that the matter is in court, we hope that the truth will prevail and there will be an end to all unnecessary disputes,” the statement said.
It stated that the petitioner and others tried to enter the premises under the false pretense of fact finding committee to investigate the crematorium being constructed by the foundation and filed a criminal complaint against the foundation.
The High Court stayed the submission of the final police report.
Apart from this, there is no other criminal case against the foundation, whoever is involved in spreading false information against the foundation will be dealt with strictly according to the law of the land,” it said.
