New Delhi: Left-arm opener Yashaswi Jaiswal and fast bowler Mohammad Siraj jointly received the best fielder medal at the end of India’s 2-0 series win over Bangladesh, after a whirlwind seven-wicket win at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium.

In a video posted on bcci.tv, India’s fielding coach T Dilip, Jaiswal and Siraj got the best fielder of the series from captain Rohit Sharma and batsman KL Rahul.

“This time we have two winners because I felt the effort we put in and as Rohit said our catching percentage in these two Tests is 9% which is really commendable. I thought there were two men who deserved this medal and someone who got through every game showed a lot of intent and none other than Jaiswal and Siraj.

Jaiswal is a contender for his excellent catching, rock-solid concentration and hand-eye coordination. For Siraj, Dileep said, “He is a livewire on the field in Chennai or Kanpur. Making every moment an opportunity to make a difference, that’s the best. “

Although Rohit did not win a medal, Dileep appreciated his fielding skills. “When it comes to grip, I think he’s as reliable as a Swiss watch.” Talking about Rahul, Dileep commented, “He is someone who has really shown his strong reactions and is really very composed in holding everything to do some very amazing work.”

In the series, India’s catching has been top notch and Dileep praised the entire team for putting their best foot forward in this aspect of the game. “Whether it’s the humidity in Chennai or the challenging weather in Kanpur, I think the intent to turn those half-chances into game-changing moments is consistent.”

“It was very clear, very well done. Special mention to our slip cordon and close-in catchers – in conditions where reflexes and confidence were tested – we did absolutely brilliantly and well.

With a stunning series win over Bangladesh, India improved their World Test Championship point percentage to an impressive 74.24 and cemented their pole position. India will next play New Zealand in a three-match home Test series starting on October 16 in Bengaluru, followed by matches in Pune and Mumbai.
