Vijayawada: In order to prove the allegations of illegal assets, section 144 was imposed in Amaravati of Palnadu district from 9 pm on Saturday in the background of allegations and counter-allegations between the ruling YSR Congress Party MLA Namburu Shankara Rao and the opposition Telugu Desam former MLA Kommalapati Sridhar of Pedakurapadu Assembly Constituency. Police officials said that section 144 will continue till 5 pm on Sunday to maintain law and order.
According to the Amaravati police, Kommalapati Sridhar and his supporters have accused that they are illegally mining sand on a large scale from the Krishna River on the orders of the local MLA Shankar Rao. Sridhar challenged Shankar Rao to come to the temple in Amaravati for a discussion on this on Sunday morning. As a counter to this, Shankar Rao challenged former TDP MLA Sridhar to prove his allegations. In this background, there was a tense atmosphere at Amaravati with YSR Congress and TDP leaders and supporters.
DSP Adinarayana announced that section 144 has been imposed in Amaravati town and advised the leaders and workers of all political parties not to attend any discussions on Sunday. He warned that anyone who disturbs the maintenance of law and order and disturbs the civil life will be dealt with severely. He said that security is being maintained with 200 policemen. Also, instructions were issued to the management not to give rooms to new people in the lodges in Amaravati.
On the other hand, instead of going to Amaravati, the police are keeping vigil at the houses of TDP chief leaders. They are giving notices and preventing them from coming out of the house.
