Death toll rises in Wayanad disaster
Wayanad Landslides Incident: The death toll in the Wayanad disaster is increasing. The death toll has reached 369. 206 people are still missing. Tragically, 49 children were among the missing. However, it seems that the death toll is likely to increase. Relief operations have been going on in Meppadi, Mundakkai, Churalmala, Attamala and Nool Puja areas in Wayanad district for 6 days. Officials of NDRF, KSDRF, Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guards, Kerala Police, Forest Department, K-9 Dog Squad, Special Operation Group, Madras Engineering Group and Kerala Fire Force participated in the rescue operation.
Drone survey continues in disaster affected areas. A search operation is underway through old photos at the scene to identify the washed away structures. The police have registered missing cases in the photography folder to trace the missing persons. 1300 personnel are involved in relief activities.
Meanwhile, 1208 houses were destroyed in the landslide incident. 540 houses were destroyed in Mundakkai, 600 in Churalmala and 68 in Attama. About 3 thousand 700 acres of agricultural land was damaged to the tune of 21.111 crore rupees.
