Mohammad Yunus (50), a cloth trader, lives with his family in Yakutpura’s SRT Colony. In a selfie video he shot minutes before ending his life, Yunus claimed that the Rain Bazar police frequently called him on the phone and took him to the police station to find out about the whereabouts of his nephew, who was involved in a kidnapping case.

“My nephew Kaif eloped with a girl. He ran off with the same girl not once but three or four times. We don’t know where he is hiding, the police are torturing me and asking me to find out where the boy is staying. Tired of being harassed by the police, I am ending my life,’ Yunus said in the video.

Fearing police harassment, Yunus’ family went to their relative’s house a day ago and stayed there. The man came to their house on Saturday morning and hanged himself from the ceiling fan when nobody was around.

Talking to the media, Yunus’ daughters claimed that the police were harassing the family and the police called her on the phone on Friday.

On the other hand, Yunus’ nephew Kaif is absconding and a warrant is pending against him, Mirchowk ACP Venkateshwar Rao said. “A warrant constable went to Yunus’ house to inquire about Kaif and there was no harassment from the police,” he said.
