Hyderabad: Due to the pain of debts, a family committed suicide
Hyderabad: An engineering student who was depressed due to debt died, while everyone else in their house in Sarurnagar was poisoned and the condition of four other members of his family is critical.
According to the police, businessman Venkateswara Prasad (60) runs a grocery shop in Sarurnagar along with his wife V Latha (55), sons Sandeep (30), Sai Swarup (28) and Vamsi Krishna (26). Sarurnagar Kodandaram Nagar Colony. Prasad’s hometown is Kurnool district.
For some time, Prasad took loans from some people to the tune of Rs. 25 lakhs. “With no way to repay the amount, and mounting pressure from creditors, the family decided to end their lives. On Monday evening, Prasad bought a bottle of the poisonous substance and the family members drank it at their house,” Sarurnagar Inspector V Saidireddy said.
A person staying on rent in the building where Prasad is staying informed the police who came to know about the incident and broke the door of the house. The police took five people to the hospital in an ambulance, Vamsi Krishna died while undergoing treatment. The remaining four family members are undergoing treatment.
Police have registered a case and are investigating.
