Jasprit Bumrah has regained the No.1 spot in the ICC Test rankings, pushing back Ravichandran Ashwin.
New Delhi: Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah has overtaken his teammate Ravichandran Ashwin to regain the top spot in the ICC Test bowlers rankings. Bumrah was rewarded for his brilliant bowling performance against Bangladesh in the second Test at Kanpur, where he took six wickets to help India win by seven wickets and the series 2–0.
This is only the second time that Bumrah has achieved the premier rank in the ICC Test rankings. The superstar pacer has surpassed Ashwin, who claimed five wickets in the Kanpur Test, and is only 870 points behind Bumrah’s rating.
Bangladesh spinner Mehdi Hasan climbed four places to 18th, while veteran spinner Shakib Al Hasan, who played the last Test in Kanpur, climbed five places to 28th.
Sri Lankan spinner Prabat Jayasuriya rose one place to joint seventh after scoring a career-high Player of the Series performance against New Zealand.
India dominated the rankings this week in pole position to reach their third successive ICC World Test Championship final after a whitewash of Bangladesh.
Jaiswal climbs to career-high ranking, Kohli returns to top-10
India opener Yashaswi Jaiswal, who was adjudged Player of the Match for his twin half-centuries in the Kanpur Test, climbed two places to third in the latest Test Batter Rankings, a new career high. Jaiswal’s scores of 72 and 51 extended his dominance in Test cricket this calendar year.
The young Indian opener is now only behind England’s Joe Root and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson in the updated rankings for Test batsmen. Jaiswal’s teammate and superstar batsman Virat Kohli also returns to the top 10 after his scores of 47 and 29* in the second Test against Bangladesh, moving up six places to sixth.
Sri Lanka’s in-form batsman Kamindu Mendis has moved up five places to 11th after scoring his second century of the series in the second Test of the recent home series win against New Zealand.
