It believes that at least 6 players should be retained (retention) or six RTM (Right to Match) should be given to save the team. It said that it would be okay if four players were given the option of retention and two more through RTM. The franchise should discuss with the player whether to retain or take the player through RTM after leaving the auction.

There have been many instances in the past where a player has been prepared to go to the auction for less amount in retention. And there are situations where every player wants to be the first retention. Some players have in the past called for him to be auctioned if he is not the first retention. It is said that it is better if the price is decided through retention or RTM depending on the player’s demand in the market to avoid such things.

If there is only retention..then the franchises have the option of paying retained players more than the retained through side contracts. But if through RTM.. in the auction the player will get the market price. Franchisees buy according to their wallet value. As a result, the bank balance of the franchisees will be limited. According to several reports, Kavya Maran said in the meeting that this will increase transparency and protect the value of the IPL brand.
