Laddu case @ SC: All eyes on October 3

One of the most significant developments happened on September 30 when the Supreme Court took up the Tirumala laddus adulteration case. The Tribunal was very straightforward in establishing the hard facts in this case.

Siddharth Luthra, appearing for TTD, submitted that the ghee supplied in June was not sent to NDDB for analysis by AR Dairy till July 4. However, only the ghee that arrived in the tankers supplied on July 6 and 12 was sent to NDDB. 4 out of 2 tankers supplied on 6th July and 2 tankers on 12th July were reportedly sampled. It was submitted in all 4 samples, ghee was found to be adulterated.

After hearing the arguments, the court wanted to clarify whether the supplied adulterated ghee was actually used in the preparation of laddoos or not.

Further clarification will come in the context of the next hearing on October 3. The court has to verify the main documents related to the lab test reports, subsequent SIT investigation and Chandrababu’s public statements.

The Supreme Court has so far only asked questions related to Chandrababu’s media statement on whether adulterated ghee was used in the preparation of laddoos. A detailed consideration of the scheme of things may involve prior signing of the TTD Board with the AR dairy for ghee priced below market-value.
