India swept the series 2-0 with a stunning seven-wicket win in the second Test against Bangladesh due to rain.

Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja and seamer Jasprit Bumrah wreaked havoc in the morning’s extended session as Bangladesh were bowled out for 146 for eight in their second innings.

It left India needing 95 runs and they did it with more than a session to spare. Yashaswi Jaiswal led their charge with 51 and Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 29 as India registered their 18th consecutive Test series win on home soil.

A stunning result in a Test that was lost over two-and-a-half days due to inclement weather cemented India’s place in the World Test Championship standings.

6 India have won six of the last seven bilateral Test series. They have not lost a Test series at home or away since losing to South Africa in 2021-22; 7.36 India’s run rate in two innings is the highest of any team to score more than 300 runs in a Test match.

India started batting on Monday to restrict Bangladesh to 233 runs in 28 overs in the first innings. They declared at 285/9 after scoring at breakneck pace to inject fresh life into a game destined for a draw.

Resuming at 26/2 on the final day, Bangladesh suffered a setback early on. Ravichandran Ashwin (3/50) got Mominul Haq caught at leg slip for his third wicket.

11 Player of the Series awards for Ravichandran Ashwin in Test cricket, joint-highest with Muttiah Muralitharan.

Shadman Islam (50) and skipper Nazmul Hossain Santo (19) provided resistance with a 55-run stand, as poor shot selection and clever bowling changes by India led to their dismissals.

Santo was bowled after Jadeja (3/34) hit a reverse sweep of the batter and Shadman edged seamer Akash Deep at slip to Jaiswal after completing his fifty.

Left-arm spinner Jadeja dismissed Liton Das and Shakib Al Hasan in successive overs and Bumrah sent back Mehidi Hasan Mirage.

Mushfiqur Rahim (37) lingered for a while before Bumrah (3/17) dismissed him with the last delivery of the session.

India lost captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill cheaply, but Jaiswal’s second half-century secured victory with one session remaining in the match. India will play a three-Test home series starting on October 16 against New Zealand. On the other hand, they defeated Bangladesh in a memorable 2-0 series win in Pakistan last month.
