What is more worrying is the limited number of vaccines available for this virus in Africa. According to the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention earlier this week, up to 500 people have lost their lives to Empox. It declared a public health emergency and called for international help to prevent the spread of the virus. Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organization expressed concern over the outbreak of the virus. Everyone on Empax said there is a risk of expansion in Africa as well as other regions. Empox is spread in different ways in different countries. However, the Africa CDC revealed that 13 countries have been infected with the Empox virus this year. More than 96 percent of all cases and deaths are in Congo. Compared to last year, cases are 160 percent and deaths are 19 percent more, which is more worrying. So far more than 14 thousand cases have been registered. A total of 524 people lost their lives.
In Congo, 70 percent of the cases are in children under 15 years of age and 85 percent of the deaths are children, the Africa CDC said. South African infectious diseases expert Salim Abdul Karim said that there is also a threat of Empox to the neighboring countries around Africa. He said the death rate with the new variant of Empox spreading in Congo is around 3-4 percent. It is known that in 2022 Empax will affect more than 70 countries. Chris Casita Osako, coordinator of the Congo Empox Response Committee, said that the Congolese authorities have requested four million doses of the Empox vaccine, mostly for children under 18 years of age. It has been mentioned that America and Japan will give the vaccine.
