Plans were made to curb marijuana
Anakapalli: Soon after coming to power, the coalition government launched a 100-day action plan to not only combat the cannabis epidemic, but also strengthen communities by educating the younger generation on its consequences.
In this regard, the officials of Anakapalli district have prepared to create awareness among students about the negative effects of drug abuse in educational institutions.
In the recently held Narco Coordination meeting, District Collector Vijaya Krishnan said that the responsibility to control narcotics rests with all partners and called for coordinated efforts among them to make the mission a success.
As part of that, the district administration intends to organize awareness programs in schools and colleges at regular intervals. Focusing on making students aware of the subject, the Collector directed the District Education Officer to organize awareness camps as soon as possible.
Also, checks have been intensified at railway stations, bus stops and other junctions where drugs are likely to be transported.
Apart from strengthening communities through awareness camps, the idea is to encourage people to inform the police if they spot any trafficking. Further special awareness drives will be conducted.
There are already four check posts in the district to detect smuggling. Apart from this, dynamic check posts will be set up to curb illegal ganja traffic.
