PM E-Drive Scheme | The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Rs 10,900-crore PM E-Drive scheme to increase the use of electric vehicles in India, replacing the Union government’s nine-year flagship FAME programme. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that a decision was taken on the PM Electric Drive Revolution Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-Drive) scheme in the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The scheme will support 24.79 lakh electric two-wheelers, 3.16 lakh e-three wheelers and 14,028 e-buses.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that PM E Drive will support 88,500 charging sites. The new scheme will provide incentives worth Rs 3,679 crore to promote electric two-wheelers, electric three-wheelers, e-ambulances, e-trucks and other emerging electric vehicles (EVs). Rs.4,391 crores have been allocated for the procurement of 14,028 e-buses by state transport companies and public transport companies and Rs.500 crores have been allocated for the provision of e-ambulances. The Center has taken an initiative to promote the use of e-ambulance for transporting patients. 500 crore has been provided to promote the adoption of e-trucks. It is known that the center introduced the FAME scheme in 2015.
