Beijing: A new trend has emerged among the wealthy in China. Affluent parents who focus on career advancement are entrusting the responsibilities of raising their children to ‘professional parents’. These professionals are doing what they have to do as parents. A PhD student in psychology interviewed hundreds of professional babysitters and revealed this.

He said that most of the people applying for these jobs have obtained degrees from famous universities like Harvard, Cambridge, Tsinghua and Peking. He said that some of them have special expertise in child psychology, while others have master’s degrees and more.

Those who are hired as professional child companions do things like taking their employer’s children to school, taking them to the clinic when necessary, doing homework and playing. Their monthly salary ranges from Rs.1,17,000 to Rs.3,43,000. The demand for ‘Professional Amma’ is high. Demand for professional dads is low. Professional fathers are being hired for boys only.
