Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president and MLA KTR has promised to support 62-year-old Narsaiah of Cheerlavancha village of Sirisilla district Tangallapalli mandal who is in Bahrain jail after losing his passport. KTR wrote a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar asking him to take immediate steps to bring Narsaiah back to India. Narsaiah, who has not been found for several years, was found to be in a Bahrain jail due to a passport problem. Narsaiya went to Bahrain 28 years ago for a job and got stuck there without a passport or work permit.
Narsaiah, who went to Bahrain in 1996, worked as a mason in The Arab Engineering and Contracting Company for three years. Although his work permit expired in August 1999, he continued to work there. His passport expired in 2001. But the Indian Embassy in Bahrain restored it. But Narsaiah lost the renewed passport as it also expired. Bahraini police arrested him and detained him in jail for being in the country illegally without a valid work permit or passport.
After learning about Narsaiah’s plight, KTR responded by promising to provide full cooperation to bring him to India. They requested that the Ministry of External Affairs take the initiative and give a temporary passport to Narsaiah. KTR requested the state government to provide full cooperation in this matter along with granting passport to Narsaiah. A letter has been written to the office of the Chief Secretary to the state government seeking immediate intervention for Narsaiah’s return.
KTR highlighted that if Narsaiah is to be released and sent back to India, he needs to confirm his identity as an Indian citizen to the Bahraini authorities. The Labor Market Regulatory Authority of the Government of Bahrain has written to the Embassy of India in Bahrain. Narsaiah seeks proof of identity and has to provide it by January 8, 2024.
KTR asked the state government to cooperate for Narsaiah’s early return. After the Indian government issues a temporary passport, the Bahraini authorities are likely to send Narsayah back to India, he said. KTR called for coordination between the party’s NRI unit and the BRS NRI unit in Bahrain to cooperate in the release of Narsaiya. He stated that the Hyderabad Passport Officer should have examined the old records and submitted a report through the concerned District Collector and SP to identify Narsaiah’s address. KTR assured that he would personally speak to Hyderabad Passport Officer, Sirisilla District Collector and SP to submit the report soon.
He directed his office staff to coordinate with the district administration and state NRI affairs department to speed up the process of Narsaiah’s return.
