According to The Metro, 55-year-old Alison Winterbotham, a speech therapist, underwent dental surgery at a dentist in 2020. During that treatment due to doctor’s negligence, her tongue was severely injured. It became difficult for her to speak. As a result, the speech therapist’s career was destroyed.
She expressed her anger that she lost her life because of what the dentist did. So she sued the dentist for one million pounds (roughly Rs. 10,78,77900) as damages. In November 2020, Winterbotham claimed that her tongue nerve was damaged after dental work, causing her tongue to be in excruciating pain all the time.
Dr. Shahrak denies Alison’s allegations:
She was unable to continue as a speech therapist. She complained that she was unable to work due to this pain. It has reached a state of not being able to speak comfortably. She alleged that the dentist, Dr. Arash Shahrak, was not fully warned about such dangers during the surgery. However, Dr. Shahrak denied her allegations.
Winterbotham is said to have consulted him before undergoing dental surgery. But, he did not expect that it would bring such danger to her. Alison approached the High Court claiming that her career as a speech therapist has been ruined and the dentist is the cause of this situation. The case is currently in court.
Winterbotham compared the pain in her tongue to inflammation. “My tongue tingles like it’s burning all the time. I am suffering from severe pain. Every time I move my tongue to speak a little the nerve becomes over-stimulated. So it becomes worse with burning and tingling. It gets worse when I speak.
I could only see two or three counseling clients a day because I was unable to return to speech therapy and needed to take a break from speaking. It also seems like a struggle to see so many patients. “If I try to see four clients a day, it seems impossible.”
