A technical problem with the spacecraft’s thruster forced the astronauts to stay aboard. However, NASA and Boeing will make a major announcement on the return of astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore from the International Space Station (ISS). The mission, which the Boeing crew called a flight test, faced several technical challenges due to delays in the arrival of the astronauts.

Engineering Teams Who Completed Testing:

Recently, engineering teams from NASA and Boeing completed ground hot fire testing of the Starliner reaction control system thruster at the White Sands Test Facility in New Mexico. This Test series will be crucial for Williams and Willmore to return safely to the ground. NASA is currently analyzing the data collected from this testing. NASA expects to discuss preliminary findings in an upcoming announcement.

Since arriving at the ISS, Williams and Wilmore have been integrated with the Expedition 71 crew, conducting scientific research and various other activities. The mission serves as an end-to-end test of the Starliner system. NASA is working towards the successful completion of this mission, the safe return of astronauts, and the expansion of ISS access through partnerships with American private industry. It aims to open up more opportunities for scientific research, commercial ventures, and human exploration in space. This mission is scheduled to last only 7 days.

When will you return to earth? :

There is no certainty as to when Sunita Williams will return to Earth. NASA and Boeing said that they are currently reviewing the collected data. NASA and Boeing said the two astronauts will return to Earth in the coming weeks.

The astronauts will have to stay there until the Starliner thruster technical problem is fully resolved. Two astronauts are going to spend another week in space. According to the report, there are high chances of Starliner spacecraft returning to Earth by next August.
