Thane: Passengers’ jewelery worth Rs 7.37 lakh seized in local train robbery; 4 held

Thane: Police have recovered Rs 7.37 lakh worth of jewelery from a passenger who was robbed on a local train in Maharashtra’s Thane district, two persons have been arrested and several youths have been detained, an official said.

The 54-year-old passenger was traveling on a suburban train from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in south Mumbai to Kalyan in Thane on August 31 when he was robbed, said Senior Police Inspector, Crime Branch Government Railway Police Arshuddin Sheikh. on wednesday

The passenger noticed that his black bag on the overhead rack was missing.

The bag contained around 7 kg of silver, 19.96 grams of gold ornaments, total value of Rs. 7.37 lakhs.

A passenger noticed a group of people hurrying to alight at Thakurli station, which is in front of Kalyan station in Thane district, and later lodged a complaint at the Dombivili railway police station.

The police registered a case under Indian Penal Code Section 305(c) (theft of any article or articles from any means of transport used for the carriage of goods or passengers).

A joint team of Special Task Force and Kalyan Crime Branch Unit has launched a comprehensive investigation.

The team analyzed CCTV footage from various railway stations en route from CSMT to Thakurli and used technical resources and informer tips to identify the suspects.

Altmas Razak Khan (25) and Shubham Sandeep Thasale (20) were arrested on September 5 and two juveniles from Thane city were detained, the official said.

He said that the entire loot was seized from them after investigation.

Later, the children were handed over to their parents, police said.
