The Telangana High Court has asked the Telangana High Court to take action after an elderly man complained that the CCTV cameras were infringing on his privacy

Hyderabad: The High Court on Wednesday disposed of a unique case of an elderly man who approached the court claiming that closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed by people near his house were infringing on his privacy. The court ordered to issue notices to those who are involved in setting up CCTV cameras.

Earlier, Telangana High Court judge Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy took up a writ petition filed by sexanarian Bheeram Sunil Kumar challenging the installation of CCTV cameras, which he alleged violated his privacy. In the petition, Kumar, a resident of Bhudevinagar Colony in Alwal, alleged that the CCTV cameras installed by the ‘unofficial respondents’ were pointed directly at his house and violated his privacy. Despite several objections and requests to redirect the cameras from 2022, officials said no action was taken. Kumar’s lawyer T. Rahul argued that the installation of cameras was a clear invasion of Kumar’s privacy. He asserted that even though the property where the cameras were installed was privately owned, that ownership did not give the property owners the right to violate the privacy of Kumar or any other resident. He also sought court guidelines regarding installation of cameras in residential areas.

Responding to the arguments presented, Justice Vijaysen ordered to issue notices to the concerned parties. The court has scheduled the matter for further judgment to address the privacy issues raised and determine appropriate measures regarding installation of CCTV cameras.
