Wayanad Landslides Tragedy: The massive landslide caused by the flood in Kerala’s Wayanad district has left an unspeakable tragedy. Everywhere you look, you can see the traces of destruction. Meppadi, Mundakai and Churalmala areas of Wayanad district are reeling from the broken landslides, collapsed houses and the cries of victims stuck in the mud. The death toll has already reached 108. 120 people were injured. Another hundred people went missing.

Washed-out relief camp
The landslides occurred in the Mundakai area at around 1 am due to heavy floods. As a result, houses, shops and vehicles were washed away in the mud. All those who were fast asleep were buried alive under the rubble. Many people were injured. The rescue team shifted the victims to a relief camp set up at nearby Churalmala School. At 4 am another landslide occurred near this school and surrounding houses and shops including the aid camp were washed away in the mud. There was a tragic atmosphere in the area as the victims were trapped under the rubble and cried for help.

NDRF, KSDRF, Army, Navy, Air Force and Fire Brigade are working continuously to rescue the victims. On the other hand, incessant rain is hampering the relief efforts. Another landslide in Mundakai in the afternoon caused further destruction in the area. Rescue teams are searching for the missing people with drones and maces. In the wake of the Wayanad disaster, the Kerala government has announced mourning for two days from tomorrow.
Prime Minister Modi phoned Kerala CM
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other important leaders spoke to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan over the phone. He assured that we will stand by him in all ways during this difficult time. The Kerala CM said that 45 relief centers have been set up in Wayanad and 118 across the state for the victims. He said that 3,069 people have been shifted to relief camps so far. Kerala Health Minister’s office revealed that temporary medical camps have been set up at Churalmala Masjid. The states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have given support to Kerala.
