Visakha: Hawala money of Rs.1.3 crore seized in washing machines
Hawala money transfer incident in Visakhapatnam has created a stir. Hawala money worth Rs 1.3 crore was seized by the police at NAD Junction in the city early on Wednesday. The police caught the money while moving the cash in the boxes of the washing machines without raising any suspicion.
However, washing machines are being transported from Visakhapatnam to Vijayawada by auto. Suspicious, the police stopped the vehicle and checked it. With that, the huge amount of money hidden in the bins of the washing machines came out. The incident created a commotion in the locality as around Rs.1.3 crore cash was found. The police were also shocked to see a large amount of money being moved in an auto at once. However, the police are preliminarily estimating that the amount of seized cash is related to hawala. Meanwhile, the police have detained the driver of Saduru’s auto. The police revealed that the accused did not have any documents related to that cash.. that’s why they caught him. Meanwhile, it has been revealed that the auto driver is being investigated. It seems that they are inquiring as to whose orders he is moving the cash. Police seized 30 cellphones and an auto. A case has been registered under sections 41 and 102 of CrPC in connection with this incident.
Meanwhile, the police seized Hawala cash in Visakha in the past as well. Rs.70 lakh was seized from a person at the Telugu Thalli flyover. Even then he said that there were no documents related to that cash. This incident took place in January 2021. Then two accused were taken into custody. After that, a similar incident took place in Nakkapally police station. On May 18, 2022, the police stopped a person while moving Rs.3 crores. The recent seizure of more than one crore cash has become a local sensation.
