WATCH: Run-machine Sarfaraz Khan hits stunning century in Irani Cup
Lucknow: First-class cricket’s run-machine Sarfaraz Khan continued his impressive scoring run in the domestic circuit with a brilliant century in the Irani Cup match between Mumbai and Rest of India at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. Lucknow.
Sarfaraz scored his 15th century in just 74 first-class innings to establish his reputation as the run-machine of Indian domestic red-ball cricket. There are also 14 half-centuries in Mumbai’s batting.
Sarfaraz scored a century off just 149 balls by pairing Yash Dayal to extra cover. The prolific batsman celebrated the milestone in style by raising both his arms with joy and trademark aggression.

Sarfaraz made the most of his outing in the middle after being released by the Indian team management for the Irani Cup. The Mumbai batsman was traveling with Team India for the recently concluded two-match Test series against Bangladesh. Ahead of the second Test in Kanpur, which India won in dramatic circumstances on Tuesday, Sarfaraz and Jurel were released from National duty.
Mumbai in pole position.
Mumbai, after being put into bat by ROI, pushed the first innings total close to the 350-run mark by lunch time on Day 2. Ajinkya Rahane, the Mumbai captain, played a brilliant knock, but the veteran Indian batsman missed out on a well-deserved century after the dismissal of Yash Dayal on 97 runs. However, Sarfaraz was lucky not to get out in the 90s as he was dropped at deep mid-on by the prolific Krishna.
Out-of-favour senior batsman Shreyas Iyer also played brilliantly with 57 runs and Dayal was dismissed. So far Mukesh Kumar has taken four wickets among Rest of India bowlers.
