Wayanad vandalism heartbreaking: Rahul Gandhi shocked

Rahul Gandhi on landslides in Wayanad Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi expressed shock over the Wayanad disaster in Kerala. Speaking in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, he said that the destruction going on in Wayanad is heartbreaking. He urged the central government to increase the compensation announced to the bereaved families and provide immediate assistance to the affected families. He opined that a comprehensive action plan is necessary to prevent the increasing number of natural calamities.

“A devastating landslide occurred in Mundakkai village of Wayanad district early today. There was heavy loss of life. More than 70 people died. When I came to know about the Wayanad disaster, I spoke to the Union Defense Minister and the Chief Minister of Kerala. I request the central government to release immediate compensation to the deceased. Compensation also needs to be increased. Vital transport communication routes should be restored. Help should be provided as soon as possible. Prepare a roadmap for rehabilitation of affected families. Landslides have increased at an alarming rate in the last few years in our country,” said Rahul Gandhi.

The death toll is rising

Meanwhile, the death toll in landslides in Wayanad due to heavy rains is increasing. So far 84 people have lost their lives and 116 people have been injured. NDRF and KSDRF teams are continuing relief operations. They are trying to save those trapped under the rubble.
