She used to feed it every day and treat it like a human being in her house. For a few days it was fed more than the dosage level. Due to this, the dog gained weight of 53.7 kg and eventually died. As a result, the investigating officers sentenced the woman to two months in prison, saying that the woman was responsible for the death of the dog.

When the owner of the dog was interrogated, she admitted that apart from biscuits and dog food, she fed her pet dog 8 to 10 pieces of chicken a day. Hence the dog gained 53.7 kg weight in few days. The doctors found that the dog’s body had such a thick layer of fat that it was difficult to hear the dog’s heartbeat. At that time, the dog’s eyes were full and its claws grew. The condition of the dog was so bad that he had to stop three times just to walk 10 meters. As a result, the dog became seriously ill and died.

According to the Royal New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), animal control officers inspected the woman’s home in October 2021 and found a dog with a large bite. Along with a dog with a huge bone, some other dogs were seized from her residence and taken to the Auckland Animal Shelter. Despite attempts to lose weight through medical treatments, the overweight dog died. A case was registered against the woman. The court recently sentenced the woman to two months in jail.
